The company intends to use the funds to grow its PayGo business globally, ramp up sales for its D30 solar home system, as well as bring new products to market that can power other appliances, like TVs and fans.įounded in 2006 as a for-profit social enterprise and led by CEO Ned Tozun, d.light manufactures and distributes solar lighting and power products designed to serve the more than 2 billion people globally without access to reliable electricity. Gera, Managing Partner of Energy Access Ventures, will be joining the d.light board. Agency for International Development – Development Innovation Ventures (USAID-DIV) and United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF). The round also included over $5m in grant funding from Shell Foundation, the U.S. The company raised $15m in Series D equity from KawiSafi Ventures Fund, Energy Access Ventures, Omidyar Network and NewQuest Capital Partners.ĭebt funding of $2.5m was also raised through SunFunder. When you leave it home because it's too uncomfortable for today's ride, Murphy's Law says that's the day you'll need it.D.light, a provider of solar energy solutions for households and small businesses around the world, secured $22.5m in financing. There's a great argument for thicker padding, but it gets heavier and hotter and more restrictive the better it protects you. I think the best armor is the one you'll wear, ATGATT. Each style of armor works, but it's impossible to know exactly what you will need when you really need protection. The dynamics of every crash are different, highly personal. But if you fall on a rock, will soft absorb the energy better than a hard shell, which should disperse the point of impact over a larger surface area? D30 is like a hybrid design and I find it comfortable to wear and it does have good protection. The new designs and materials are really good, rocket science stuff. The soft armor is designed to absorb the energy of the impact. And it's good at spreading out the point of impact over a larger area. And the hard armor is especially good at sliding down the road crashes. The best hard shelled armor always has a soft energy absorbing liner against your body, so you get the benefit of both hard and soft. I find that it flows air better than my pressure suit and is more comfortable.Įvery kind of armor is going to have it's circumstances where it works better than others. I have superior abrasion and impact protection.and as bonus. Under the jacket I wear the forcefield chest and rib protector. ( I recycled the D30 pads.adding the shoulder on to forcefield knee pads and using the D30 elbow pad in the hip pad pocket of my Klim pant. I replaced the D30 shoulder and elbow pads with forcefield pads. The Klim latitude mesh jacket is my base. I have tried the forcefield tights but the material was unacceptable.too hot and stinky.the Bohn air mesh tights are much bettter.and are easily modified to accept forcefield armor. My Klim Mojave pants hip pad pocket have D30 elbow/for arm pads inserted.this gives me potentially dual layer hip area coverage.with Bohn hip pads in my tights. A D30 shoulder pad fits perfectly over the forcefield pad knee cap.really ups the impact protection to the knee cap. My Forcefield knee pads have been modified to a two layer system. I now use a hybrid of system utilizeing, Forcefield, D30, Bohn., and Klimįor my lower body I used the Bohn air mesh tights modified to accept additional forcefield pads in the thigh, and butt. IMO the Forcefield brand soft armor offers superior impact protection to any hard or soft armor I have used. I have used both hard and soft for both my upper and lower body. Soft, with a good abrasion protection outer layer is superior to hard armor. I ride everything from interstate to single tract on my KTM. I live in Colorado ride a ktm 350 dual sport 70/30 dirt/slab. Unfortunately it is not temperature stable.ĭ30 energy absorption rate changes.over the temperature range many riders encounter.ĭ30 also becomes significantly stiffer as temperature drops and can become uncomfortable.Īnd all D30 is not created equal to begin with.some versions are thicker than others with greater impact protection. In addition when warm it molds to your body. D30 does absorb a significant amount of impact energy.
